Merry Christmas!

A few sad things:
  • We are all sick, possibly with croupe. Ollie started it. The saddest is that Henny has it. She is hoarse. She tries to cry and can't and its sad. She only slept for 4 hours last night - 4 hours between the hours of 9 pm and 7 am. She would doze a bit, but after 15 minutes would be crying again. It sucked for many reasons.
  • Virge and Lana gave us some pictures of their visit last time they were in SLC that were of Henny and Ollie and all of us. Ollie sorted through the pile (about 10 pics) and threw the ones of Henny on the ground and carried the rest around. So sad but quite astute as well.
But overall Christmas was still way fun and Ollie (although he had some NAUGHTY moments) was really cute. He says so many good sentences and phrases.
  • "1 more" and holds up 1 finger
  • "are you?" meaning - where are you
  • "dair ee ay" meaning - there he/it is
  • other things I can't think of right now
Ollie LOVED spending time with his cousins.  Every morning he would ask for Kass - " get tass", Dylan - "get dyl", and Tiny Lightning - "Tie Lie Tee!".

Here are some lovely pics...

The Changeling

My little buddy went away when Henny was born and there is a new naughty little bugger in his place. He refuses to eat anything but milk, bread, juice and candy. That includes the super hero vitamins I bought him. It includes fruit and cheese which he used to LOVE. So basically he gets no nutrients. He also refuses to take naps lately but is TIRED and cranky and moody and whiny when he doesn't. His favorite thing to do is make his legs limp and refuse to stand up so he throws tantrums on the pavement in public places and I have to carry him - which i'm not supposed to do yet cause of my c-section - and I can handle picking him up a couple times but wrestling with him and lugging him around everywhere when he weighs 30+ lbs and he's kicking me and I'm trying to get Henny around too gets very tiring. sigh. I'm ready for him to get through this adjustment phase.

He is however adorably funny and creative and smart when he isn't being his naughty alter ego.

That Thing You Do

I love the movie That Thing You Do. It just makes me happy. When it first got to the dollar theater I was 15 and it was Christmas break.  A few of us had our licenses and we went to see it every day of Christmas break. The scene where they first hear themselves on the radio and run screaming through the streets has got to be the happiest scene in any movie. It makes me smile just thinking about it.

Remind Me

I can't believe how quickly you forget (block out) the nuances of life with a newborn.  So Henny is getting close to figuring out how to eat and then go immediately back to sleep during the night. Most nights she has it down, but certainly not all.  She is turning into Ollie though and won't sleep during the day. Today she woke up and ate at 6, went back to sleep from 7:30 - 9:00. Then slept in the car seat from 10:30 - 12:30. Then slept for only 45 minutes from 2 - 2:45. and then WOULD NOT go to sleep despite numerous efforts from me. She took like two 20 minute cat naps and now its 8:50 (20 minutes into her 2nd cat nap) and she is threatening to wake up. Why do my children hate sleep? One major difference between Henny and Ollie is that Henny is much less fussy and at least she is mostly happy when she is awake. I am hoping that this day of no naps is the exception and not the rule.

So when did your kids start having 3 regular ish naps, going to sleep between 7 - 9 pm and sleeping until 7-8 am and going to sleep right after they eat? Also, when were you able to stop doing the middle of the night diaper changes? Unfortunately I did not keep good records with Ollie...plus I think he was a bit difficult and I was a bit retarded anyway. :)

And here is Henny and the first boy she held hands with. Everett Mangus. They are 1.5 weeks apart. I give up trying to get the picture to rotate.

And here is a dumb movie that is 23 seconds long and the only thing good about it is how he says "Frosty the Snowman" AKA "Fa Sno Mo". He has to watch Frosty every day...and since I'm nursing he gets to.

And here is a video for my mom of Ollie enjoying his new toy. My mom is doing 12 days of Christmas to the grandkids and Ollie LOVES it. He keeps trying to sneak off and unwrap more presents.

Old Stuff and Brand New Stuff

Just found these pics and realized I never posted about these things awhile ago. We took a couple cabin trips with Sunny's family this summer and here are some pics of us enjoying the great outdoors.

A long time ago, like in October 2010, we went to Memphis. Look how cute and chubby Ollie and Millie both are.

We took swimming lessons with Tiffany and Dane in May. I can't believe how much older both Ollie and Dane look now.

And now for some brand new stuff, meaning Henny of course. Tracy took some newborn pics on Thanksgiving and the little cutey would NOT fall asleep so she's awake and a little goofy looking. :)

And here are a few cute ones from the hospital, also courtesy of Tracy - who is a photographer. Hire her and/or visit her photography blog:  http://tracyhillphotography.blogspot.com/

And finally, we put christmas lights up on Ollie's crib. He is pretty excited about them.

Who is who?

Guess which one is Ollie and which one is Henny. Can you tell?

The IV kinda gives it away since Henny was the picture of health and Ollie struggled in the NICU for a couple days. But don't they look almost identical? Ollie has bigger lips and a bigger space between his nose and mouth and slightly bigger cheeks, but otherwise they are so similar to me. Both the cutest babies ever of course!

Henrietta "Henny" June Beck

We had Henny at 8:02 am on Friday, November 18th. She weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and was 20 inches with a 35 mm head. The doctors kept saying how big her head was but it doesn't seem big to me (maybe cause Ollie's is enormous??). Is this a big head, anyone know? She is 1 week old today and has been about as easy as a newborn really can be. She doesn't cry much and sleeps...ok. She sleeps all day long and struggles a bit at night, but not too bad considering that she is only a few days old.

My recovery (C section) has been great also. We actually went to the aquarium today, all 4 of us, and I felt fine for the most part. I never even had to take anything other than Ibuprofen. My doctor or body or the combination is good. Although I am ready to lose this belly and look like the old me again.

I would also like to thank our lovely neighbors and friends and family that have stocked our fridge fuller than it has ever been and who cleaned our house and watched Ollie and brought us food in the hospital and just came and said hi.

Here are a whole bunch of pics:

Ollie's last night as an only child. Celebrated getting cheese pull-a-parts at The Pie.  Ollie ate almost 3 full pull-a-parts. He is eating tons these days and growing out of everything. As a side note, he seems so old ever since we brought Henny home. He keeps saying "No baby" and wanting us to put her down though. But he has also had a few really cute moments with her where he just walks up to her and pets her saying "soft..."

Right after birth when my arms were still a bit numb and my brain too.

Little Henny Penny in my arms in the hospital.

Sucking away on her binky.

Chilling peacefully in Dad's arms.  (Tracy took this pic, which is why it is such better quality than the others.)

Lindsey and Henny the day we came home from the hospital.

Henny with some extra chubby cheeks.

Maybe my fav pic of her so far. She just looks so cute and sweet and girly.  Sunny took this one while he was giving her a good cozy.

We finally got Ollie to wear this awesome hat we got for him. He was excited to be wearing a hat like Dad's.

As another side note, when we were pregnant with Ollie I tried to convince Sunny to name him Henry because I wanted to use Olive for a girl. So instead of Henry and Olive, we have Oliver and Henrietta. I didn't even notice that until we were out of the hospital. I have never been 100% behind the name Oliver (just cause I liked Olive so much) but I am in love with Henny/Henrietta's name. I feel like it totally fits her and its Norweigan for Sunny's family Norway ties and more unique than the other names we were debating about. So anyway, go us for coming up with a name we liked. :)

Laundry List

I just did the laundry. Only I didn't use detergent. Awesome. I am ready to get this baby out of me and for pregnancy brain to go away.

Here are some pictures of our last days as a family of three. Sometimes I wonder what we were thinking when we thought we were ready to become 4...Life is actually really manageable and enjoyable with 3. I'm scared of these upcoming newborn nights and nursing. But way excited to have a little girl and excited for the days when Ollie and baby girl can play together and bond.

Thanksgiving Point was awesome for Halloween. We went to the corn maze and festivities.

Ollie on the Thanksgiving point train.

Will someone please tell Sunny that this police station is plenty manly? Ollie loves to play with my dollhouse and he breaks everything in it. Someone needs to buy us this for Christmas. Its $79 from CostCo. Athankyou.

A belly shot right before she dropped into my lap/thighs/bladder area. Dang she is low right now. I miss these days.

Ollie and his little buddy Esther (aka "Ehhh") from next door. They are 3 weeks apart. There were some with her mom Sausha and I but they struggled.

Ollie loved Trick or Treating and the candy afterwards.
